A real woman is one of great strength, selflessness and integrity. She stands up to the best and bossiest of the lot and never compromises her beliefs. A beautiful woman is one whose looks transcend time, fashion fad or trend. She does not feel the need to bare-it-all for her beauty to be seen as it is evident in the way she speaks, the beliefs she represents and the fire that only a real beautiful Caribbean woman can exude. “No man ain’t no tes’ for she because she will put him in he place.”- Regina King, 27 year old HR Professional

So you’re going to the biggest party of the season… and you’re wondering… “To do…or not to do”
Well, there are certain things in the Fashion World that we do and some that we just do NOT do! Apart from the basics like; “Don’t mix polka dots with stripes”, “Always make sure your handbag matches your purse” “Ensure that your tuxedo fits well”…etc. there are little things that aren’t usually pointed out.
DO:
• Wear black with navy or both of them with cream, white, beige or brown.
• Wear black for a black tie evening event.
• Wear blouses that minimize if you are larger on top- softly draped (not oversized) styles or simple V necklines without pockets, always wear darker colours on top and skip wide belts, long necklaces and big pins.
• If you’re a little loose around the waist, wear tunic tops, loose jackets and softly pleated pants.
• Wear a belt with a gold buckle if you are wearing gold jewelry.
• Think TWICE before wearing a print scarf with a print outfit.
• Keep things balanced but not plain
• Have fun with accessories but keep them hip and trendy
• Be aware of colours that suit you
• Know your pants size, sleeve length, waist size, etc.

DON’T:
• Wear patterned leggings as they make your legs look heavier
• Have body parts hanging or falling out of your clothes
• Over-accessorize
• Wear really casual shorts or beach sandals on “dress-down Fridays”
• Wear too many clothes or colours at once
• Wear a casual watch with dressy clothes
• Wear a casual jacket over a fancy top
• Wear anything too tight, too sleazy or too see-through
• Don’t reveal too much when wearing leggings, always wear a top that covers your rear-end
• Mix your metals…silver jewelry is out of the question if your top has gold buttons
• Assume that your belt must always match your shoes…but don’t stray too far either
• Overstuff your handbag or carry one that’s bigger than a bread-box
• Wear see-through clothing unless you know exactly what you’re doing
• Wear high shoulder-pads
• Wear fishnet stockings
• Socks and sneakers with a suit
• Be afraid to be colourful

Our What Fashion means to me series continues with Bevv Forde.
A “trend”, according to the Longman’s English Dictionary, is defined as “a fashion or style, the latest or most popular fashion”
In my opinion, trends are copies of original ideas. They are meant to be mixed and matched, used wisely and combined with care; not to copy and paste. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with following trends, but not all trends work for everyone.

The year 2008 started off with a fashion BANG, and as it is quickly coming to an end, in my opinion, this year has seemed to be the “Fashion Year”! – pencil pants, high-waist skirts and jeans, ruffled tops, waist coats, leggings, scarves, chunky jewelry, big handbags, and funky hairstyles. Guys gave up their “hoodies” for tight t-shirts and pencil pants, and girls stepped out looking like models from the covers of Vogue.

Ariane “Twiggy” St. Louis is one of the most fashionable friends I have. She’s crazy, funny, cool, and all about high fashion, and trust me…she knows her stuff. So, this week I decided to throw the question out to her… “Ariane, what does fashion mean to you?”
What does fashion mean to me?
Well…..fashion is life….fashion is everywhere, fashion is inspiration, fashion is individuality, fashion is expression, fashion is a mood!
