The 15th Caribbean Gift and Craft show held in Barbados from the 2 – 5th October 2008 represented a wide variety of Caribbean creativity and talent. The event sought to expose exhibitors and their brands to potential buyers and visitors to the event.
The event while being a very good idea seems to lose some points for the way it is marketed to the public. What has been showcased over the past few days should fall under the category of fashion rather than craft. Fashion would embody the whole creative element of everything that was showcased over this fantastic weekend. This should bring bigger crowds to the event since fashion within the Caribbean is doing fantastic as a product. The Caribbean Fashion Rhythms event drew large crowds on both nights and only had standing room, the designs we saw on both nights were fantastic and the potential for Caribbean products internationally is tremendous.
Some of the main corporate sponsors of the event included: First Caribbean International Bank, Fed Ex, Liat and Caribbean Airlines. These sponsors must be commended for their commitment to the event and supporting Caribbean design and creativity.
Cheers to a great event.
