Meet The New LBD
All hail the latest LBD for summer 2012! No, LBD does not stand for the traditional ‘little black dress’ as created by design legend Coco Chanel… This summer, LBD means Little Bright Dress… No holds barred on the hottest colours for the season, including tangerine, red and incredible neons!
These are our colour and style choices for the season. How would you wear it?
This woven zipper dress by The Addison Story is really sweet and feminine. The colour is mimosa, a beautiful shade of yellow that will look just gorgeous on a range of skin tones from sunkissed to ebony. The shift dress is also back in a big way! The open back allows for a little sex appeal without being overly suggestive.
Keeping on the lines of yellow, fun and flirty, this slightly dressier silk canary folded petal dress by Cynthia Rowley is a great option for a less formal outdoor wedding guest!
Another colour we love – though we’re not as excited about the dress (bad fit, unflattering shape, confused draping, not sure if it should have been T-shirt, and way overpriced for the design at $172) – is the jade hue in this Karen Zambos Vintage Couture knit Agnes dress.
One outfit we do really like is this ruched sash dress by Alex + Alex, mostly because of how versatile it is. Dress it down during the day, or use hair and accessories to turn it into a perfectly appropriate and eye catching evening outfit.
Also cherry red is this ruched jersey dress by Twenty. Just hike it up above the knee (the pictured length is a little awkward!) a few inches and slap a great obi-inspired printed belt around the waist – Trinidadian designer Robert Young for The Cloth comes to mind.
Another great ruched jersey dress is by Susana Monaco, which is a lot more youthful and perfect for those long, slender body types. The colour? Tahiti.
And closing up our picks with a colour very close to home is this ocean blue silk cotton sheath dress by Ava & Aiden. Doesn’t the fit look beautiful? A dress like this is perfectly work appropriate and easily transitions to after-work drinks or a dinner date. Wear it with a charcoal denim jacket to dress it down or a great fitted white blazer with contrast black collar to really brighten up the room and make a colour-blocking statement!
Look professional and clean cut, but keep the fun and sexy in your summer by using colour in sophisticated and classic clothing styles! Enjoy your new LBD!
Something about the cut of this leather shoulder dress by Poleci, as well as the deep gemstone hue of green, keeps drawing me in. The draping at the neckline is very flattering, and creates enough shape to be flattering for the less well-endowed ladies, and the silhouette is figure-skimming without being figure-hugging, making this another great wedding outfit option.
