We’ve been meaning to show you this gorgeous face for quite a while now!
Meet Keisha Bertrand, who loves reading, swimming, aerobics and mythology. She may only be 5’ 4”, but you’d be fooled by looking at her photos! She started modeling early in her childhood, but only last year consciously made the decision that she indeed wanted to model professionally.
At 120lbs, she has modeled for Red Runway, an annual fashion event on the island, which she says was most memorable.
‘… The rigorous training was much appreciated, and the process of being chosen by designers to showcase their talent… was exhilarating!’
Keisha believes that confidence and being secure are the toughest and most important parts of modeling in the fashion industry, due to the constant criticism directed at models, both individually and on a whole. She says it is important to ‘shake off negative comments, internalize constructive criticism and keep pushing forward even if you may not have been chosen for a particular job’.
She lists supermodel Coco Rocha as an example to aspire to, and would love to be mentored by her – ‘Her walk is so refined… she is so very versatile with her striking poses; she can do thirty different poses in a minute!’ She also loves the work of designer Jean Paul Gaultier, saying that he ‘sees and produces beauty where others overlook it.’ Locally, she is a fan of Heather Jones, whose prints she says exude romance.
In five years’ time Keisha wants to be a businesswoman as well as a professional model, hoping to expand upon her talents into the arenas of dance and film.
Keisha is signed with Trés Belle Modeling Agency in Trinidad & Tobago, an agency that works to train models and help them get test shoots and portfolios underway. With the support of such an agency, models can focus on what is required of them when modeling, while the agency handles the printed materials models need.
