If you thought that couture was exclusive to grown women, think again!
Meet Adelaide Lee Kong, daughter of W. Anthony Lee Kong and Laura Cotton. Born in Louisville, Kentucky (USA) on March 11th, Adelaide was christened there on May 8th of this year, wearing none other than a custom-created Claudia Pegus gown for the occasion.
Adelaide received this gown as a gift from Pegus’ atelier in Trinidad. Says the designer:
‘Adelaide’s christening gown was a collective staff effort! Everybody was excited when they were assigned the task of producing this dress. We used a white silk chiffon, hand-embellished with bows of powder pink satin ribbon together with clusters of pink and white baby’s breath.’
The production of the gown took a day for cutting and assembling and two further days of hand-embellishment. Although this particular gown was a gift from the designer to the couple, christening gowns of this nature typically cost around $250 USD in the States.
What a great introduction to the world of fashion – custom couture before your first birthday! Any bets on what Adelaide’s first words might be?
