We just love the composition of this simple black and white shot as well as the ‘raw’ wall as the backdrop, which brings it all together!
Lyden Thomas is a self-taught photographer whose first love was always drawing and painting. In 2003, he began experimenting with his sister’s ‘point and shoot’ by taking random photos until his love for the automotive sporting industry – in which his brother competes – made it only natural for him to have an easy subject to photograph.
After acquiring a more sophisticated ‘point and shoot’, Thomas was recruited to shoot for a small media house in 2005, and then was commissioned to shoot for the country’s biggest car-coverage company – TriniTuner – in late 2009, by which time he had learned the ins and outs of capturing the intense action and dramatic moments in all types of motor-racing.
It was around this time that fashion and beauty made an appearance in his portfolio, from attending a number of Carnival band launches, dance and fashion shows.
‘I’m a very humble and friendly person. I always try to add my own twist and flavour to everything I photograph, but I maintain respect for the veteran photographers in the various fields as well, as they inspire me’
Lyden Thomas is continuously on the lookout for fresh inspiration and new takes on photography from other artists’ work, so that his own work is constantly evolving.
