Même Bête humbly began in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2009 as the brainchild of Taribba Hinkson, who first arrived in Ethiopia as an International Business Intern. With limited and minimal experience, she decided to start her own international business and conceptualized an East meets West theme by combining the best of Ethiopian leather with the most energetic African traditional cotton.
Taribba’s designs are minimalistic and practical yet chic, as the focus lies mainly on the cloth/leather combination. The brand name Même Bête is derived from a St. Lucian Creole saying that roughly translates to: ‘We are all the same’. This name is also a loose pun on the various types of leather used in the bags – ox, sheep, goat and cow.
Today Même Bête is expanding on a wholesale and international scale with the creation of its own workshop as well as being available in Addis Ababa, Toronto and now in St. Lucia.
CFstyle loves the colour and range in the Même Bête collection, as we’re sure our readers will too… Be sure to check out what’s available at the Jazz Shop at Duty Free, Pointe Seraphin in St. Lucia!
