Your Entire Body Needs Love and Attention!

As we celebrate the world over, showing love to our significant others and those around us on this Valentine day, we also feel its important to show love and attention to your body. Here we focus on methods to show love to your body. Happy Valentine Day to all fashionistas.

We usually spend all of our time taking care of the skin on our face and paying minimal attention to the rest of our body.

Overexposure to the elements, swimming or just plain neglect can cause your skin to become scaly, dry, flaky or itchy. Your skin is made of multiple layers, each with its own purpose. The outermost layer can become covered with dead, dry cells that are essentially debris and are ready for removal.

Bathing cleans away excess oil and dirt, but leaves the dead skin. An abrasive is needed to remove this layer. Exfoliants including body scrubs remove the dead skin allowing the supple, younger looking skin underneath to be seen and felt.

By scrubbing off the top layer of dead skin cells your skin will feel smoother, your moisturizer will penetrate easier and you will help prevent annoying ingrown hairs and body breakouts.

At Home Scrub Recipes – Choosing Your Grain:

You can use sea salt, sugar or coffee as your granular exfoliant.

Salt Scrubs

You can use sea salt, Epsom salts or just plain table salt. Use a salt that has a smaller grain so that it is not too scratchy for the skin. If you decide to use a larger salt be sure to grind it in a blender, food processor or coffee mill. All salts will have detoxifying and muscle relaxing properties.

Sugar

You can use brown or white sugar. Brown sugar is gentler and has a warmer, yummier fragrance. Sugar scrubs in general are gentler than salt scrubs but don’t really have muscle-relaxing qualities.

Coffee

Coffee grounds feel great on the skin but the caffeine has added benefits. Added topically coffee helps to redistribute fat cells and decrease the formation of cellulite. It also acts as a vasorestrictor, tightening and shrinking blood vessels thereby helping eliminate varicose veins. Others options are oatmeal, flax seed and crushed almonds.

Moisturizing

Once you pick your grain of choice you are ready to add in your oil. You will add enough oil to turn your grains into the perfect slushy mixture. Not too oily but not too dry. You can use jojoba oil, safflower oil, olive oil or vegetable oil. Add your favorite essential oil such as lavender or geranium for an increased sensory experience.

If you don’t have the time to mix your own scrub, you can look get one that is already prepared at your favorite cosmetic counter – just look at the ingredients to figure out which one fits your needs best. Coffee based scrubs are great in combating cellulite. Salt scrubs have the muscle relaxing qualities.

So happy exfoliating, once you experience this all over body smoothness you will be hooked on scrubs for life!
